Most of us eat food not only for hunger but also when we feel lonely, depressed, getting bored or just for taste. This results in a feeling of guilt of over-eating and sometimes, it leads to a serious eating disorder called bulimia.
Bulimia is a trivial weight loss strategy in which people follow a strict diet routine which leads to a kind of starvation. They feel enormous craving for their favorite food and finally they end up eating more than normal. Then, in order to get rid of absorption of calories, they vomit all the stuff and then get starved again and again they feel cravings for their favorite high calorie food.
Bulimics often think that they have invented this amazing technique of weight loss and keep it secret from others. The condition gets worse because they think that this technique is absolutely fair and not ready to admit that they have this problem.
Symptoms of bulimia-
- Excessive worry about weight and figure.
- Consuming large amount of food in a short time
- Self criticism, mood swing and guilt about weight gain.
- Extreme preoccupation with food.
- Constant craving for food
- Taking medication for purging the just consumed food.
Bulimics then indulge in a habit of snacking the high calorie food like sweets, chocolates, chips and oily food and avoid normal meal. In this way, they finally consume much more calories than a normal diet.
In addition, vomiting makes them feeling hungry constantly even after consuming food and disturb the normal digestive process. They don’t get satisfied with what they eat and continuously eat much more food than normal servings.
Consequently, your weight will increase because of the constantly snacking of food. Moreover you will become an addict of bulimia nervosa that overall affect your mind, body and spirit.
Bulimia is a serious eating disorder which can be fatal if left untreated. This can cause extensive consequences like depression, dental problems and even death. Bulimics never feel satisfaction after eating and always crave for more food.
Treatment- first of all you should visit a physician to get the cause diagnosed. Therapy is also a permanent and effective treatment for the problem. The therapist provides a safe setting to find out the underlying psychological reasons.
Be aware and get rid of this vicious circle as soon as possible. It is nothing but a starvation exercise and makes you a slave of food.
